Healthy Superfoods at Every Meal

Super Foods All Day Long

Is it possible? I mean we all know we should be putting healthy nutrients in our body. Doesn’t it seem like too much work to include Superfoods at every meal? Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten older and realized I REALLY like feeling healthy. I think my mindset has shifted to just LOVE including Superfoods all day long. I’m not a raw Vegan. I don’t feel like I’m dieting. I just enjoy really tasty, satisfying super foods.

What are SUPERFOODS?

Any natural non-gmo, organic, high nutrient, low processed food falls into the category of Superfoods. Some foods are more nutritious than others. Also some nutrients are absorbed better with other key ingredients. Due to toxic pesticides and herbicides, I avoid bread, pasta, peanut butter, and non-organic grains. Keep in mind with the Gluten Free movement, there still may be pesticides and herbicides involved in your food supply. Buy ORGANIC! Buy lots of colorful vegetables. Be intentional with your food.

What to BUY at the Store:

Organic Lettuces, Kale, Carrots, Onions, Potatoes, Veggies, Garlic, AVOCADOES, Bananas, Fruit, and Lemons and Limes.

Herbs: Basil, Cilantro, Arugula

Organic Frozen Veggies, and Organic Frozen Berries or Cherries

Kefir, Siggi’s Yogurt, 0%Greek Yogurt, Sour Cream, Coconut/Almond Milk

Non-Hormone, Organic if possible Eggs, Meat, Bison, Chicken, Chicken/Apple Sausage

Organic Bone Broth, Bone Broth Protein

Organic Rice, Quinoa, Gluten Free Baking Mix, Gluten Free Pasta or Dreamfields Pasta, Rice Pasta

Organic Gluten Free Crackers, Baked Chips, and Crunchmasters Crackers

Coconut/Almond Milk, Canned Organic Coconut Milk

Probiotic Kraut or Kim chi

Meal Ideas

Drinks:

Hydration is KEY for digesting foods, and keeping our bodies balanced. Our bodies need water to transport nutrients to our cells, and keep our bodies functioning. If we think of a car, it will overheat without water in the radiator. Same with us, fever and sickness develop if we are not drinking enough water and liquids, but mainly water.

Filtered Water (can be Refrigerator, Brita, Sink Filter or Other)

Lemon and Limes to squeeze in Water – Makes water more Alkaline and full of Bioflavinoids that help the immune system. They help decalcify your kidneys which makes your whole body run smoother.

POM Juice – pomegranate juice is tart and tasty and full of antioxidants. The POM brand is the best on the market. I also add a squeeze of lime to mine. Instead of wine, try POM.

Organic Wine – Occasionally, a glass of wine can be healthy. Too much wine or alcohol will add excess pounds.

Organic Dark Roast Coffee – some people avoid coffee, but I find a cup in the morning helps cleanse my system and perks me up. I use either Organic Cream or Canned Organic Coconut Milk with Organic Maple Syrup and Vanilla and Organic Cinnamon.

Breakfast:

Take note that Coffee may be two hours before Breakfast. At Breakfast, it’s pretty easy to include Superfoods. I tend to do something called FUEL SHIFTING throughout my day, which means my meals will either be HIGH FAT-PROTEIN meal with no carbs, or COMPLEX CARB – PROTEIN with little FAT meal. Thank you to Trim Healthy Mama for teaching me that tip.

Overnight Oats: Mason Jar with Siggi’s No FAT Yogurt, Oats, Dried Fruit/Nuts/Choc.Chips (choose what you like), Water/Kefir/Almond/Coconut milk(choose any), pinch Salt, dash Maple Syrup. Soak overnight, eat in the morning. You can make 4 – 5 days in advance. Add Chia for added nutrition.

Collagen Smoothie: 1 Banana, Frozen Berries/Cherries, 1 Scoop Bone Broth Collagen, Coconut Milk/Water, Vanilla. Blend.

Gluten Free Pancakes: Birch Brothers Gluten Free Pancakes, Water, Organic Maple Syrup

Yogurt with Extras: Full Fat Yogurt like Noosa with toasted nuts on top

Banana: Sometimes for me it’s just coffee and a banana, and my main meals at lunch and dinner

Lunch:

I almost always have a High Fat/High Protien Lunch, or very limited Carbs.

Salad with Avocado: Salad including Spinach/Arugula, Avocado, Left over Chicken or Steak, Tomatoes, other Veggies, and sometimes herbs like Basil or Cilantro. I usually put Olive Oil/Balsamic Vinegar on top.

Chicken Apple Sausage with Probiotic Kraut: Cooked Sausage links on a bed of Probiotic Farmhouse Kraut with Mustard. Can you tell I’m German?

Awesome Soups: I make some amazing soups including Coconut Thai (full of awesome fats from Coconut milk, organic broth, Ginger, veggies, garlic, turmeric and spices, avocado on top), Tomato Basil (Canned organic tomato sause, Organic Broth, Organic Cream, Basil leaves), Soupa Touscana (Sausage, Onions, Garlic, Broth, Potatoes-optional, Kale, Organic Cream) Great for Dinner and the next day!

You will notice all of my meals avoid Bread and sides of Bread, because Gluten and Breads tend to slow and stick in your system and intestines. I may eat any leftovers for lunch in a light portion.

Dinner:

If I’m dieting, my dinners may be very similar to my lunch menu. I’ve gotten to a place where my weight is very balanced. Now, at dinner I have a balance of Carbs/Fat/Protein, but I still avoid Gluten. Anything on my lunch menu may also show up at dinner, especially if it’s just me eating. Here are a few other meals for Dinner Time:

Gluten Free Organic Chicken Strips with Potatoes and Green Beans: This is a child pleaser. Just use Organic ingredients and light portion of Potatoes or eat chicken over a Salad

Bison Burgers on Gluten Free Ciabatta Roll: Bison is protected in the US, so they are not allowed to be treated with hormones or antibiotics. The meat is lower in fat and also super tasty.

Steak or Ahi Tuna over Veggies/Salad

Eating Out: iPHO Chicken Soup, Panda Chef entrees with White Rice, low sugar/no bread/high super food entrees. It’s totally possible to eat super foods while eating out.

Snacks:

Every snack can be healthy and can be full of super foods! If you are trying to lose weight or keep weight off, you may need to watch carbs during snacks. Here are some healthy options:

Organic Dark Chocolate

Probiotic Kraut or Kim chi: I know this one sounds weird, but a couple bites of Probiotic Kraut or Kim chi can totally satisfy my body until the next meal. I heard a statistic that 1 teaspoon of Probiotic Kraut has more probiotics than a bottle of Probiotic Capsules so I’m a big Kraut and Kim chi FAN!

Juicing: Not everyone has a juicer, but, oh my, Beets/Carrots/Ginger/Celery/GreenApples make a mega combo. You can also drink POM Juice mixed with GREEN POWDER of your choice. Sometimes I add Soaked Chia for added strength.

Collagen Smoothie: Fruit, Milk/Kefir, Collagen Protein Powder

Yogurt

Date/Walnut Roll

Crunchmaster Crackers with Cheese or Avocado

Eating like this most of the time allows your body and immune system to get super built up. This, along with a few key supplements, exercise, and enough sleep, can make you feel like a Super Hero. If you have any questions, please post below. May you all LIVE WELL and HAVE LIFE to the FULL!

Sleeping ROCKS: Natural Sleep Remedies

Sleep affects everything! We need to sleep. We need to rest. And we need to Dream. Many, though, can not easily settle down to rest. Our very cool distractions tend to keep us up late into the night. I’ve spent 30 years teaching students of all ages, and lots of them stay up all night. Teens play games until 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning. Adults aren’t able to settle down to sleep. After a time our health and emotions start to pay the price.

A good nights sleep is like the reset button for all these systems:

  • Growth Hormones
  • Stress Hormones
  • Weight (sleeping keeps weight down)
  • Immune System
  • Heart and Cardiovascular Health
  • Eye Rest and Recovery
  • Concentration and Focus
  • Works our Emotional issues
  • Adrenal Gland Health
  • Kidney and Liver function
  • Daily Rhythm and Energy

Children and Teens

When my daughter was a Preteen I did not realize that she was not sleeping, until one night I woke up to hear her typing on an old typewriter Nancy Drew style in the wee hours of the morning. Another night she woke me moving all her furniture around at 1:00 AM. Of course lots of people get their best work done at night, but often they don’t get that rest, that healthy reset they need to function. For my daughter, she started developing anxiety and school issues. When we had her tested, she had a super high IQ and she was in the 99.5 % Gifted Range, but you wouldn’t know it by her grades. Oh those talented people have to find their rhythm in order to be the most successful!

For her, as a young person, we did these things to help:

Young Person Reset –

  • Develop Daily Routines and Chores
  • Exercise including Sports and Walking/Parks/Swimming
  • Our WiFi Shut off at 11:00 PM: No Gaming, Phone or Movies (in High School she was allowed phone)
  • MELATONIN – this was the big, super help Sublingual Melatonin Peppermint – under tongue

This plan works well for all kids, younger ages and earlier bedtimes as well. Many ADD/ADHD/Gifted High IQ have brains that run overtime. They tend to need interesting, high impact input to stay focused. These days high energy VIDEO Games, Internet Shows, and APPS are used like a stimulant, sometimes addictive, to help them focus. They need help unwinding and unplugging from that stimulation. Routines, Physical Exercise, Time Limits on GAMING/TV/APPS, and Melatonin help integrate normal activity and normal sleep patterns in young bodies. My daughter now LOVES to sleep and LOVES to wake up early. She has straight A’s in her Senior Year and she’s excited about college and her future, which was not the case several years ago.

Adults

What about adults? Statistics say 1 in 3 adults do not get enough sleep for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes, it’s similar to young people in that they aren’t physically active, yet have a lot of screen time, at work or at home, computer or TV. Our bodies actually crave to be active and feel much better when we are. Other times it’s stress affecting our hormones. For myself, though I am a very positive person, I’ve faced struggles including divorce that wreaked havoc on my sleep. I’ve also found that Alcohol may make you sleepy, but disrupts can often disrupt a full night’s sleep. I had to really focus on finding ways to sleep well and be healthy.

Before I go on to the Practical Sleep Advice, let’s get Spiritual for a minute. There are aspects of life that can seem overwhelming and beyond our control. We may not know what to do next. We may have made mistakes. All these things can make us anxious and feel like life is very hard. It can keep us up at night worrying. It can make us second guess ourselves. Right now, I want to tell you that there is a Higher Power, God, who put you here for a reason. When in doubt, ask God, and pray for wisdom. What you seek, you will find. Tap into who you are too, and why you are here, and what your gifts are, and ask God to show you how to get there. Ask God to help you with problems; if He created you and this world He knows how to help you. Ask God to forgive you, and to help you forgive others or yourself if you need it. Let go of negative people and places. Focus and you and your immediate family. Don’t let anyone judge you, your life is yours to live. I find my life is more powerful, peaceful, and intentional with God in it.

ADULT SLEEP RESET –

  • Daily Routines and Organization – ZEN atmosphere, Balanced Schedule
  • Exercise – I prefer Planet Fitness or these videos ladies
  • Less Computer/FACEBOOK/TV or sometimes more because I’m so busy a show or movie once or twice a week helps
  • MELATONIN
  • CoQ10 and Magnesium Supplements
  • Magnesium Oil
  • Lavendar Essential Oil
  • Prayer
  • Intentional Focus on Health, Sleep, and Life

To Recap, Sleep is super important but many children and adults are not getting enough. People who are very intelligent sometimes have difficulty sleeping. It helps to get have routines and a calm environment to sleep well. Computers, FACEBOOK, and TV should have a stop time, so you can wind down. Supplements such as MELATONIN, Magnesium, CoQ10, and Lavender essential oil are very helpful. Light Exercise during the day and even a couple hours before bed is also very calming for the body. With all these tips, also be sure that you feel secure with God about your life. Prayer and Meditation help brings answers to life’s troubles. SWEET DREAMS!

Living the Super Food Life

Ridiculously Healthy

I think I fell down the rabbit hole of health. I didn’t intend to. I just started walking down this path, and I got REALLY curious about the cake and the drink I found in the rabbit hole. I started to learn wondrous things about food and drink that made me think. It’s really only recently that we’ve discovered the power of living food. Most of the food we eat is not living; it’s pasteurized, homogenized, processed inert meals. Yes, we can eat them, but these meals do not optimize our life and our health. But, I wanted to be living the Super Food Life!

What’s the difference between food and living food? Does everything we put in our body help us live? I’ve seen small children eat crayons. They can eat them, and they will be OK, but the waxy crayons aren’t doing anything for them. There are foods though that are actually living when we eat them, and we should include them every day. Let’s take a peek at LIVING FOOD!

Fresh Food

Many years ago, mom’s my age were starting to mill grain and bake fresh bread. Many friends and I would make large orders of buckets of Red Wheat, White Wheat, Rye, Sorghum, Millet, Amaranth, Tapioca and more. We would buy grain mills and Zojirushi Breadmaker, and make the most awesome bread on the planet. There truly is a difference between fresh milled, fresh baked, and store bought bread. Fresh milled bread unlocks living seed nutrients that remain active in the bread for up to 4 days. This was before I knew much about phytic acid in grains, which steals some of those nutrients, but still the bread was amazing packed nutrition. This was Living Bread, unlike the store bought bread which is edible but not very nutritious. Well stored grains and nuts are seeds of life that are unlocked when milled after soaking, or sprouting (see links above) to eliminate phytates.

Fresh produce, fruits or vegetables, also carry life. Studies have shown produce continues to have cellular activity until it goes bad. Fresh produce contains enzymes, vitamins and minerals, and more. Some produce is meant to be eaten raw, while other produce digests better when cooked. Still, other produce can be cultured into Kim chi, or Probiotics that is TEEMING with the life of good bacteria that helps maintain our bodies. Colors often correspond with benefits of certain produce. Green brings us life. Red helps our blood, our liver, and our kidneys. Orange helps brighten our eyes. Celery and slaw help our bones stay healthy and strong. Walnuts feed our brains good fat. Fermented foods help our digestive system. FOOD IS AMAZING, especially organic food grown nontoxicly.

Raw Dairy

Raw Organic Dairy comes from non-toxic happy cows or goats. Raw Milk is full of enzymes and antibiotic properties. It’s actually a living food. There’s a huge difference between “live’ milk, and the pasteurized milk available in the store. There is an anti-dairy campaign right now, but I tend to agree with the Maker’s Diet which includes anything you find OK in the Bible. We see every leaf, tree, and fruit plant, and clean animals including their milk. We also see fresh food each day. Don’t save the food forever. Eat for today! Raw Dairy also can be used to make probiotic yogurt, kefir milk (kind of like Buttermilk but full of probiotics), and cheese.

I actually really enjoy cheese and yogurt, but finding organic can be a challenge. If you think about it, you would want cheese from cows being fed antibiotics, and toxic grains. Look for Organic Yogurt, and natural Organic Cheese. Beware of Mold inhibitors on cheese. Find your local Organic Shops like The Wild Hare, to buy raw milk, goats milk, cheese, fermented drink and more.

To Eat or Not to Eat Meat

The Maker’s Diet talks about eating meat because the Bible talks about meat, as offerings from clean animals. These include Bison, Cow, Lamb, Goats, and split-hooved animals, but not pigs. It includes chicken, duck, pigeons, but not birds of prey. It includes fish with scales, but not shell-fish. Eggs are included. This does not mean that those who choose not to eat meat are wrong. Let everyone be fully convinced in their mind for themselves. Fresh fruit, veggies, grains, nuts and seeds, and fermented dairy are part of the plan. Many families will also include Organic Meats. Meats contain protein, good fats, vitamins and minerals and more. I recommend fresh meats.

I recently bought a bag of pre-grilled chicken that was gluten free. I thought it would make an easy lunch by having it pre-grilled. I included some grilled chicken on my Avocado salad. When I ate it the chicken did not sit well. When I looked on the side of the bag I was horrified to see the expiration date. That bag of chicken had an expiration date 18 months away. The most I would give my own cooked chicken in my fridge would be 2 days. That chicken I ate could have been over a year old. That’s really gross DEAD chicken, not fresh. In days gone by, meat would be eaten the day it was killed, unless it was smoked or salted. When my mom was a child in Germany, it was common to go out and get a fresh chicken to eat for dinner that night. Biblically, the priests would take the offerings of bulls, lambs, goats, or doves, kill them on the altar, and eat them or share them that day. This is the ultimate way to have the greatest nutrition.

Since most people do not have their own farms, fresh is best or fresh frozen is the second best option for meat these days. I saw an interesting statistic about freezing from Berkeley Wellness, “Freezing does not kill most microorganisms, but puts them in a dormant state,” which means freezing preserves much of the nutrients. It’s also beneficial to not overcook meat to maintain the quality. A rare steak is packed with nutrition, and the rare part still has amazing enzymes in meat. Meat meals are the basis for Bone Broth and more. Salmon is loaded with Omega 3 fats, protein, and vitamin A. Sushi, Sushimi, and Ahi Tuna give the body living energy through raw state of fresh food.

Healing from the Inside Out: Quick Start

Unique Perspective

Life’s challenges often drive us on a quest for answers! When people look at me, they don’t know all the behind the scenes. As a child I had an awesome life, but behind the scenes there was some abuse, some alcoholism, and some family health problems. My Mom died young at 50, and I started the question the root causes of that. At 20, I married into a family with Type 1 Diabetes. I watched parts of that disease snowball into other auto-immune diseases. Then, two of my children also inherited Type 1 Diabetes. In my 30s, I started to notice problems in myself. All this has caused me to make some health shifts that I’ve seen work in my life and the lives of others. Healing begins from the inside out.

This blog is going to be my Quick Start to share what has worked for me, my family, and my friends! These changes did not happen overnight, but I’ve slowly shifted my life to include these elements. Do what you’re led to do that helps you!

The Mind is Powerful Thing

I was talking the awesome man in my life, and he said we can control our thoughts and think good things. Our thoughts create our reality; our words decree our reality. It’s really important to know our bodies were intricately designed to live. I believe we were designed by a Creator God, in His image according to the Word of God, to function fully. I speak this out loud over my body. Now I’ve met people who think and speak the worst over a stubbed toe. Sad to say, I’ve prayed for people who said out of their mouth, ” I want to die.” And the truth is, they did. It’s important to guard what the mind thinks and what the mouth says. Speak life over your body.

Au Naturale

Au Naturale! Doesn’t that sound sexy! I think going Natural is the yummiest way to do life. In the industrial age (1700 and 1800s), we made many steps to make life easier, and quicker, but with consequences. Many products designed to make life easier can be laced with toxic chemicals, man-made synthetic imitations of the real thing. Natural products were designed by God to work well in your body, and on your body. Fresh food is teeming with enzymes and life!

Keep in mind also how your food is grown. Fruits and Veggies should be grown in Mineral Rich Soil without chemicals or pesticides. Chickens, if you eat chicken, should be free-range organic. Think about the stress of 7000 chickens in boxes in a warehouse; you will eat the stress hormones. Yuck. Have you compared eggs lately? You will notice regular eggs have a very brittle shell and pale yolk; but organic eggs have a super shield shell, and sunshine orange yolk. The difference is unmistakable.

Let’s go au naturale:

  • Eat Fresh; Eat Organic
  • Eat lots of the Colors of the Rainbow Fruits and Veggies
  • Non-GMO; synthesized or genetically modified do more harm than good
  • Avoid Gluten (in America); other nations do not use Round Up poison on their wheat
  • Watch your Cheese; natural cheese only – no mold inhibitor or chemicals
  • If you Dairy – Try Raw Milk; teeming with enzymes and life
  • Organic Yogurt helps the body too; infused with probiotic power
  • Grass Fed Organic Beef, Bison, Free-Range Chicken
  • Probiotics or Kim chi is more powerful that bottle probiotics
  • Avoid Phytic Acid in seeds, nuts, grains, and breads by soaking or sprouting
  • Eat super foods with every meal

Phytic Acid; the Anti-nutrient

I feel like I need to explain the problem of Phytic Acid. All seeds, nuts, and grains have a special coating that protects them that contains Phytic Acid. For many years, we’ve been told to eat raw, to eat with hull intact, to eat brown rice/wild rice, to eat multigrain bread for health. The truth is the outer shell of any nut, seed or grain is often hard to digest and laced with phytic acid. This phytic acid is actually an anti nutrient that leaches nutrients from the food you’re eating, which means if you have nuts, grains, or seeds in some way with each meal, you may not absorb the nutrients you need. There is a question for those allergic to gluten or nuts, that possibly they are very sensitive to phytic acid.

How do we solve the problem of phytic acid? Soaking, sprouting, or fermenting all seeds, nuts, and grains before eating can help. Nuts without the hull are better, such as blanched almonds. Sourdough Bread, due to fermentation, breaks down the phytic acid in the grains. So you can look for Sour Dough Bread, Sprouted Grain Breads, or make your own. There is an awesome company that these sells Sprounted Grain Varieties to make your own bread: Amaranth, Spelt, Rye, Wheat, Oats, Sorghum, and Tapioca.

Kitchen and Bath

If you have the choice, choose natural, beneficial products for your kitchen and bath. For instance, natural, non-toxic dishwasher packs are much safer than chlorinated dishwasher cleaners. Avoiding Aluminum in Kitchen or Bath, helps avoid possibly breast cancer, dementia and Alzheimers, which is linked to aluminum. Natural Cleaners with Essential Oils truly help your house, and your health.

Here’s a list of healthier choices:

  • Stainless steel storage, cups; better than plastic or aluminum
  • Cast Iron; better than ceramic, or non-stick coatings for cookware
  • Seedling tree free toilet paper from Grove; better than over harvesting trees for paper products
  • Aluminum Free Deodorant; harmful other deodorants
  • Parchment Paper for Baking; Instead of Aluminum Foil
  • Non-toxic Cleaners;
  • Body Brush for Lymph Skin Massage
  • Essential Oils
  • Hydrogen Peroxide to clean and kills virus, mold, and more

Natural Supplements

I believe in Superfoods and Supernutrients are available through the food we eat, as well as through supplements. Our food sources and diets can be deficient in certian enzymes, vitamins, and minerals, so I choose to supplement in certain areas. Aging is related to loss of digestion, free radical damage, and hormone loss. For my own life, I decided to help my body in any way possible through the use of certain supplements.

Here is what I use:

  • Enyzmes; this one thing alone has single handedly changed my life.
  • Thyroid Support; controls metabolism and I feed my thyroid
  • Selenium; helps my body use certain other nutrients
  • Adrenal Support; during my divorce I found the need to support my stress glands
  • Estrogen and Progesterone All natural bio-identical creams; woman stay young
  • Magnesium and Magnesium Oil; Peace and Harmony supplement blood pressure; make your own
  • Umbiquitol; Heart and Blood Pressure
  • Vitamin D3 10,000 plus Sunshine; Supports every function and immune system
  • Allibiotic; when needed to fight colds, virus
  • Your Superfoods; help add massive superfoods to everyday meals and snacks
  • Exercise; it’s a free way to improve every area of your health. Check out Dance Abs.

These are my main quick start tips in one place. I’ll include links to help you, and continue to write about how to improve your outlook on life through Super Foods.

Family Matters; Best Foods for Leaky Gut

Family Matters

What a beautiful gift to raise children! I was just reminiscing on raising my kids, Nathan, Sam, and Emily. I was truly blessed that the boys were really best friends. I don’t ever remember them fighting. They loved doing everything together. Then they finally had a little sister. We had so many adventures exploring the nooks and crannies of Florida. As I look back, I’m so thankful for the fun we had. On the other side of the coin, there was something I overlooked as a mom. I would say most other moms at the time overlooked it too. As babies, I now can see a difference that I wish I had known about.

Does your baby cry a lot? I nursed all three children. My first son almost never cried. But my two other children had bouts of crying frequently. I remember trying everything: nursing, changing diaper, car ride, baby slings, and more. Eventually they settled, but still had moments of sensitivities as they got older. The word Leaky Gut did not exist in my world. These two sensitive children of mine went on to develop several auto-immune diseases including Type 1 Diabetes, Low Thyroid, and Aspergers/Sensory Processing Disorder. Could this all be related to Gut Health?

Leaky Gut and Autoimmune Issues

Our gut was designed to be the ultimate food digesting machine. Foods are meant to be broken down into usable, absorbable nutrients for the body. As food goes into the stomach, the pancreas releases insulin and enzymes to digest sugar and some compounds, the liver and gall bladder release other enzymes to digest other components. Sometimes, due to toxic overload or genetics these systems don’t function the way they should. Sometimes our diet is deficient in enzymes which are necessary in digesting food. Fresh fruit and vegetables give us natural enzymes to help our bodies digest. If the body does not digest foods well, due to lack of enzymes, allergies, or toxins, the undigested food will be absorbed in the blood and cause autoimmune problems.

When invaders enter the land, the army will be sent to protect. Our bodies protection system is our white blood cell warriors. White blood cell warriors will attack anything that looks foreign, and undigested food looks foreign. In the case of Type 1 Diabetes, those white blood cells attack the very pancreas they should be protecting. Systematically, they may attack other parts of the body as well. This attack is often causes damage and inflammation to organs, joints, and particularly the digestive tract in stomach pain, gas, mental or emotional fatigue, anxiety, add/adha/sensory processing/Asperger, disruptions in sleep and more. Enzymes can be a Game Changer! Adult and Children Enzymes at the Bottom of Page.

You might have Leaky Gut if you have:

  • Food Allergies
  • Eczema; Skin Issues; Acne
  • Digestive Problems: Stomach Ache, Vomiting (spitting up as baby), Diarrhea, Constipation, IBS, Chrons, Celiac
  • Anxiety, Depression, Learning Disabilities
  • Joint Pain, Kidney Problems
  • Diabetes, Thyroid issues, Lupus

Some may say, “That’s sounds like just about everything!” YES!

Healing Leaky Gut 1st: Non-Radical Family Method

  1. Take Enzymes and you can eat a more realistic healing diet
  2. No Gluten; What? How do I do that? It is possible!
  3. Avoid Sugary Items. Use Honey, Maple Syrup, and Coconut Sugar sparingly
  4. Drink Bone Broth. Incorporate it into meals. Use Bone Broth Collagen in smoothies. Use it to make rice or grits.
  5. Ditch Milk; use Coconut or Almond milk instead. Yogurt and Cheese may be OK. Listen to your body.
  6. Add squeezed lemon/lime slice to every glass of water.
  7. Eat lots of Colorful Fruits and Veggies, especially green. Cook hard veggies (and fruits) like carrots, squashes, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, and more. These are hard to digest with a leaky gut.
  8. Meats for Meat Eaters: Organic Bison, Chicken, Eggs, Lamb, other. All Organic
  9. Add Probiotic Slaw, Kim chi, or Probiotic Pickles for in between meal snacks. These have more probiotics than many probiotic supplement capsules. I heard one statistic that one teaspoon Probiotic Slaw has more probiotics than a bottle of probiotic capsules.
  10. Gluten Free Carbs: Potato, Sweet Potato, Rice, Grits, Gluten Free Crackers, Bread, Pasta, Gluten Free Baking Mixes, Make sure you buy Organic
  11. Healthy Fats: Butter, Avocado, Coconut/Olive Oil, Goat Cheese, Full Fat Raw Organic Milk (loaded with living enzymes), Natural Cheeses, Chia, and Dark Chocolate. You can eat these FATS confidently!

Watch your own Food Sensitivities: Nuts, Dairy, Soy, Eggs, Gluten. When you repair your gut, you may be able to include some of these back. If nut allergy, I would always avoid.

Typical Day

When I think of the typical day my kids used to have, I wish I had known. They started their day with waffles with Syrup or Pop Tarts. They had a sandwich with peanut butter and sugary jam for lunch, or maybe Kraft Mac and Cheese. We then might have Steak with Bread and Potatoes, or Pasta with a side of Bread. It was all considered normal, and it’s not bad, unless you have gut issues. If you have gut issues, the above could be disastrous (unless you take enzymes). Try these options instead:

Breakfast (take Enzyme)

  • Smoothie with Berries, Coconut Milk, Bone Broth Powder, 1 Banana
  • Overnight Oats: Oats, Greek Yogurt, Berries, Soaked Chia, Cinnamon (Tons of recipes online)
  • Gluten Free Pancakes with Eggs and Bacon

Lunch (take Enzyme)

  • Bone Broth Soup with Chicken, Ginger, Garlic, and Scallions,
  • Bone Broth mixed with Can Tomato Sauce, Cream, Spices, Dash Maple and Gluten Free Grilled Cheese
  • Organic Meat and Cheese, Gluten Free Crackers,
  • Salmon/Chicken and Avocado over Spinach and Arugula, Oil/Balsamic Dressing

Dinner (take Enzyme)

  • Bison Burgers, Gluten Free Bun, Avocado, Mushroom and Onions, other topping
  • Gluten Free Chicken Strips and Mashed Potatoes
  • Organic Chicken/Apple Sausage over Organic Potatoes (German Potato style)

Snacks

  • Probiotic Pickles or Kraut
  • Cheese with Gluten Free Crackers
  • Fruit – Berries, Watermelon, Banana, Cherries, Grapes, other
  • Dark Chocolate
  • POM Juice with teaspoon of Chia
  • Gluten Free Chips with Avocado
  • High Fat/Low Sugar Dessert

In summary, the majority of health issues begin with gut issues. If you are noticing any Leaky Gut symptoms, you should be taking Enzymes with your main meals, and probiotics in between meals. Avoid Gluten and Sugar while you are healing your gut. Try some meal ideas above. Stay Organic, include Super Foods, and go for minimally processed items! Look online for more recipes. As a mom, I have slowly incorporated more and more of this style of eating into my household. I try to make what they love using healthier options.

Give this a try – SUPER FOOD ME STYLE!

Peace; Chill Out with Homemade Magnesium Oil

Peace; Chill out with Magnesium

Do you want to feel peace? Are you overthinking life? Almost everyone is searching for peace. Peace means nothing is missing, nothing is broken, and nothing is lacking. It means we are secure in ourselves, our relationships, our health, and our physical and spiritual well-being. Peace means we love our self and love others to life. Peace can be found on a mountain top, and in a child’s laughter. Sometimes, sickness, stress or sorrow can interrupt peace, and there are many ways to bring peace back to your life. Today, I want to unlock some secrets to peace, including the amazing benefits of Magnesium Oil.

Spirit, Soul, and Body

Some people say we are a Spirit (the essence of who we are), we have a Soul (mind, will, and emotions), and we live in Body (all our organs and physical parts). There are different ways to feed ourselves. We actually have the capacity to feed our Spirit, and feed our Soul, as well as feed our Body food.

Peace for the Spirit

We feed our spirit peace through spiritual revelation! Yes. I am from California so I’m kind of cute hippy chick. I don’t want to sound to far out for you. But spiritual peace is fed through spiritual practices such as meditation, affirmation, and speaking peace over yourself. I happen to be a Christian; it’s OK if you are not. I had been through quite a bit at a young age. I was molested. My mom was an alcoholic. These things stole my peace. For me, having a relationship with God helped restore my peace. My relationship with God is not really about religion. I feel God in my life in a very tangible and peaceful way. I know who I am, and I am His! Peace is also found in things like forgiving anyone that hurts you. Forgiving yourself for failures. Our spirit is also driven by who we are. As Rafiki said in the Lion King, “You don’t know who you are!” Our spirit is fed when we are true to our self, and doing what we were created to do. Steps to Spiritual Peace:

  • Forgive everyone even when they don’t deserve it.
  • Apologize if you hurt someone. Forgive yourself.
  • Meditate. Deep Breath. Focus. (I meditate on the Word of God.)
  • Avoid toxic people who don’t believe in you.
  • Speak Peace and Prosperity over your life, your health, your job, and your relationships.

Peace for the Soul

Peace for the soul is peace for the mind, the will, and the emotions. These are all things we choose many times. My good friend Kathie Walters often says, “Nestle, don’t wrestle. Snuggle, don’t struggle.” Some people choose the struggle at times. Anxiety is a real thing. Sometimes we get restless about school and work, about meeting new people, about flying in a plane, and about life in general. There are many things that can bring peace to the soul, including breathing, thoughts, songs, movies, places and even supplements.

How to feed the soul:

  • Just Breathe – Deep breathing calms the entire body, it releases endorphines, and cleanses and oxygenates every cell
  • Thoughts – Take charge of anxious thoughts in the mind. This for me is where The Word helps. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of LOVE, POWER, and a SOUND MIND!
  • Songs are soul food. Even beats can regulate the heart rate to normal levels.
  • Movies and stories also impact the soul, and they can bring peace, and life lessons.
  • Beach and Mountains = Peace
  • Supplements can help Serotonin Levels balancing emotions, including Magnesium

Peace for the Body

Everything is connected, including the Spirit, Soul, and Body. As I said, Magnesium and other supplements can affect the Soul (mind, will, and emotions) as well as the body. There’s something about Magnesium that has an unparralled effect on mood, energy, and heart health in the body. Magnesium is very abundant mineral. It can be found in many Super Foods. As a matter of fact, my go to list of super foods includes everything on the Magnesium Food list. There is a problem though. One of the traits of Magnesium is that it does not absorb well in the gut. Especially if someone has any gut issues, insulin resistance, or alcohol dependency they lose Magnesium’s amazing effects. Magnesium is a MEGA MINERAL.

Magnesium Benefits:

  • Lowers Blood Pressure
  • Repairs Cardiovascular Systems; given in IV to heart patients
  • Increases uptake of Serotonin benefiting PEACE:MOOD (fights depression)
  • Decreases PMS and morning sickness for women
  • Increases testosterone for men
  • Benefits 600 or more body processes at a cellular level
  • Relieves Migraines
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Relieves IBS and constipation

Magnesium Food List:

  • Green Leafy Vegetables
  • Avocado, Figs, Artichokes, Banana
  • Nuts and Legumes
  • Salmon and Tuna
  • Green Vegetables and Blueberries
  • Dark Chocolate, Cacao
  • Oats, Rice

“But I’m a foodie” you may say, “I eat plenty of Magnesium.” That may be true, but most people are low in Magnesium anyway. Interestingly enough though, Magnesium much more potent when absorbed transdermally through the skin. Our skin is the LARGEST ORGAN in our body. It’s quite surprising just how much we absorb from our skin. I began learning this when I started taking Progesterone Cream, and sublingual Melatonin. They both do their job through the skin, not swallowing orally. Magnesium is one of those minerals that truly does better absorbed through the skin.

Enter Pure Epsom Salt

A couple decades ago people used to say you should soak your feet in an Epsom Salt Bath. Now we know why that was such a good idea. Epsom salt is not even really a salt; it’s Magnesium Sulfate! In the Bath, Epsom salt feels very good. Magnesium Oil has a more radical impact. Here’s how you make it:

  • 1:1 Ratio
  • 1/4 cup Epsom Salts (Ancient Minerals is healthier: Dr. Teals works well too)
  • 1/4 cup Warm Water (Distilled is Best)
  • Essential Oils for wellness and aromatherapy (optional)

Salts will melt into water.

Apply at night before bed. Apply during times of stress. This will chill you out, so maybe not first thing in the morning.

Shoulders, neck, inner arms, back of legs, and bottom of feet are all absorbent places. You can actually feel an immediate calming. It also helps acne and t-zone. You can also add straight Epsom salts to your organic body wash for a similar effect.

Are you irritable, exhausted, or unwell?

TRY HOMEMADE MAGNESIUM OIL!

You will thank me!

O Mighty Chia Pet; Organic Chia Seed Benefits!

Do you remember the Chia Pet?

Maybe it’s my age, but when I was a kid in the 70s a very novel toy came out. The Terracotta Chia Pet came complete with Terracotta head or animal, chia seeds, and instructions. Soak planter for at least a half hour. Place seeds in 1/4 cup of water. Place seeds in grooves on planter. Leave planter for 2 days. Water and soon the hair (sprouts) will begin to grow. Ch-ch-ch-chia! At the time, no one would even think to EAT the Chia seeds.

Healthy Benefits of Organic Chia Seeds

The little nutrient dense Chia Seed, like many Super Foods, is a Cellullar Optimizer. That means the antioxidants in the Chia help clean and refurbish your body at a cellular level. Here are a few of the awesome features of this mighty food:

  • Healthy Fats Omega 3’s
  • Lots of Protein per very small serving
  • Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Zinc, B Vitamins, and a rare source of Manganese
  • Massive amount of fiber per serving
  • Antioxidents
  • Plays well with others; great in smoothies, drinks, oatmeal, crunchy ahi tuna topping; versatile

Soak Your Chia Seeds

I highly recommend soaking your Chia Seeds. Chia Seeds are super absorbent. They soak up 10- 12 times their weight with water, or milk. You only need a small amount to give you big benefits. Warning: If you eat large amounts of dry Chia Seeds, it could cause digestive problems. Soak, soak, soak!

                             Super Soaked = Super Healthy

1/4 Cup Chia Seeds to 1 Cup Water. This will make a Gel that can then be used in Overnight Oats, Smoothies, Drinks, Chia Pudding and more.

Super Food Me Style Overnight Oats

The first time I experienced Chia Seeds was with a new trend called Overnight Oats.

See Below for some awesome Recipe Ideas

  • Toasted Organic Oats (I toast oats, blanched almonds in oven, add cinnimon)
  • Soaked Organic Chia
  • Califa Toasted Almond Coconut Milk or other
  • Siggis Greek Yogurt Vanilla or Plain (optional) or other
  • Super Food Additions: Berries, Chocolate Chips, Apples, Nuts, Fruit, Dried Fruit
  • Sweeteners: Banana, Organic Maple Syrup, Organic Honey
  • Small Mason Jars or other container

“Everyone likes Parfait”, said Donkey! Layer ingredients to your taste in Mason jars. You may need more Milk than expected as this will absorb overnight. If you are dieting, limit Oats and sweeteners. Make several at one time. They will last for 5 days.  Enjoy!

Super Food Me Chia Elixir

  • POM Pomegranate Juice
  • Soaked Organic Chia Seeds
  • Squeeze of Lime
  • Your Super Foods Super Greens (optional)

I’m not big on exact measurements. I usually take 6 oz of POM, mix in 1-2 teaspoons of soaked Chia Seeds, and add a splash of Squeezed Lime. I also add Super Greens if I have them to pump this drink up even further. Pomegranate Juice (with lime) is a fantastic substitute for Wine or Alcohol if you are trying to cut back. Chia seeds are energizers, so only use them during the day.

Chia Seeds meant strength to the Aztec Warriors. Here’s to your Health and Strength! Cheers!

Super Foods, Losing Weight, and Fuel Shifts

I’m 50 years old! Fifty, yet more healthy, attractive, and energetic than in previous decades. How?

These are the thoughts I think sometimes. How did I get here? I’m actually at a place where everything fits. My skin and my hair are healthy and vibrant. This is not bragging. I’m shocked, truly. The little shifts I made have paid off big time. I want to share any secrets I have with everyone. Every one should prosper and be in health even as their soul prospers! May we all be Happy and Healthy at every age!

Before I get to the Secrets of Fuel Shifting, I have to give my back story. I always thought I had a healthy diet, rich in delicious assorted food. That was true, but it wasn’t helping my waistline! In my thirties, I could really feel my body shifting. I had pain in my joints. My stomach was bloated. Not long after that I found out my body was not digesting food very well, especially protein. If you are struggling in this way, you may want to read my article on how I became Pain Free.

Secret of Fuel Shifting

The secret of fuel shifting is about making your body have to use different fuel at every meal. The fuels that I choose would be considered Super Foods, but you can fuel shift without super foods. I originally began to hear of fuel shifting through Suzanne Somers, and later, I must give credit to the ladies at Trim Healthy Mama. Unlike Paleo, Keto, and Atkins which tend to focus on High Fat/Low Carb meals, fuel shifting allows for Carbs at one meal, Fats at another meal, and Protein and Super Foods at every meal. Allowing for Healthy Carbs at some meals is more balanced than Keto or Atkins. I remember when my Dad was on Atkins he lost a ton of weight but he looked gray. With Fuel Shifting, your body radiates with health!

Let’s Define Terms – For Super Foods make sure all of these items are Organic and Non-GMO

Healthy Fats – one type of fuel energy

  • Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil
  • Butter, Ghee (clarified Butter)
  • Avocado
  • Chia Seeds
  • Natural Cheeses
  • Fatty Fish (Salmon, Tuna)
  • Nuts
  • Coconut, Coconut Oil
  • Full Fat Milk, Yogurt, or Cream

Healthy Carbs – another type of fuel energy

  • Oats (Bob Mill’s Organic Gluten Free)
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Potatoes (limit serving size)
  • Rice
  • Grits (Bob Mill’s Organic Grits)
  • Gluten Free Bread, Crackers, Chips (limit serving size)

Notice the above choices avoid Gluten altogether. A change away from Gluten can drop your weight quickly.

Healthy Protein – body builder

  • Chicken
  • Bison or Beef
  • Eggs
  • Lamb
  • Salmon, Tuna
  • Cheese, Yogurt (Organic Non-Fat)

Super Foods for Every Meal – Cell Optimizers

  • Berries
  • Greens: Lettuce, Kale, Arugula
  • Soaked Chia (Chia is Aztec for Strong) – organic super cheap, super healthy; soak in water, store in fridge
  • Colorful Veggies: Peppers, Beets, Carrots, Squash, Asparagus, Broccoli, Cucumber
  • Fruits: Apples, Lemons, Limes, *Watermelon, *Melons, *Bananas (*limit serving size for these)

  2. When trying to lose weight limit coffee (1-2), and alcohol (1-2 weekends only)
  3. Use a salad plate or bowl for meals. Less space = smaller serving size. Skip Seconds.
  4. Enzymes and Probiotics if necessary (undigested food = bloating and weight)
  5. Give yourself a splurge day: birthday, holiday, anniversary! Eat what you want.
  6. Once you get to your goal, you no longer have to fuel shift. Eat from all lists!

Summarizing Fuel Shifts, I encourage you to make your body shift fuel sources throughout the day. The bodies two main fuel sources are Carbohydrates and Fats. If you want to lose weight, use only one fuel source at each main meal, plus protein and super foods. Meal Fuel #1 Fats with Protein/Super Foods and no/low carbs. Chicken Wings with Celery and Blue Cheese Dressing (no chips, fries, or carbs) would be an example for Fat Fuel Meal. These meals fill you up and make you feel good! Meal Fuel #2 Carbs with Protein/Super Foods with no/low fat. Chicken over Quinoa with Side Super Food Salad with 0% Greek Yogurt Dressing is considered a Carb Fuel Meal.

Fuel shifting is designed for weight loss. When you are at a happy weight, you don’t have to Fuel Shift at meals. It does come in handy when you have an event coming up and you need to lose a few pounds, or after a time when you’ve had to eat out a lot. A few days of Fuel Shifting will bring you back to your ideal weight.

This is me now, at 50! I’m not an expert, but the changes I’ve made have certainly helped. I know they can help you too!

I’m too young to be in pain! My Story

My Story

Over 10 years ago, I made a discovery that absolutely changed my life.

In 2006, as an active Mom with three children, a husband, and a job, my family always ate well and had an Active Lifestyle. In my late thirties, though, I started to notice more aches, pains, and very frustrating symptoms in my body.  My hips and knees radiated with pain.  My kidneys also seems to be backed up and sore. I knew I was too young to be in this kind of pain. I’m not a huge fan of doctors, as I feel they treat the symptoms with long term drugs, rather than addressing the cause. So my search began!

My Friends

In my quest to find answers, some close friends made a suggestion. My friend Christina had struggled with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and she was now  pain free. Jeff and Christina found help through a local Natural Vitamin Store. When they heard what was going on with me, they suggested I get a Live Blood Analysis.

What is Live Blood Analysis? The Bible says “Life is in the Blood”, and blood can tell you a lot about a persons general health, and how the body is functioning. Doctors almost always ask for a blood test. A Live Blood Analysis done by a trained practitioner can tell you several things that doctors don’t always tell you. For Live Blood Analysis, it’s just a finger poke drop of Live blood on a slide. This helps see exactly the blood quality, how much Life is in the Blood!

Live Blood Analysis can help discover the following things:

  • Health of red blood cells
  • Presence of infection
  • Diabetes
  • Parasites
  • Digestion issues – leaky gut
  • Oxygenation of blood
  • Plaque in blood stream

I made my appointment! In the grand scheme of things, I was relatively healthy. BUT I FOUND OUT ONE KEY THING THAT CHANGED MY LIFE! My body was not digesting proteins. I was eating a lot of protein for health and body building, but my body could not digest protein well. Those undigested proteins were showing up in my blood as Uric Acid Crystals. These Uric Acid Crystals were causing my pain and problems.

Check out this image of Uric Acid Crystals in Blood. On the left are normal red blood cells; on the right uric acid crystals have invaded the blood and can be deposited in different parts of the body. YIKES!

High Uric Acid in the Blood can lead to a number of problems and diseases. Any joint pain, back pain, inflammation, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and kidney problems can stem from high Uric Acid Levels. Here I was in my thirties with knee, ankle, hip and back pain, plus kidney issues which was leading to blood pressure issues, too. So what was causing all this Uric Acid in my blood?

My Solution

When the body is lacking ENZYMES from fresh, raw food, many people are unable to process high protein foods. It turns out in my quest for health, I was eating a ton of protein which my body was not able to metabolize. I was eating a somewhat healthy diet and doing what most doctors (and TV Show hosts) recommend, but it was not helping me. I did not have enough enzymes to process the protein. Unprocessed protein leaks into the gut, causing inflammation around the body, gunky blood, and more.

I could have chosen a RAW FOOD DIET with all ORGANIC PRODUCTS, but as a busy mom I did not have to luxury to make that happen. I was slowly making changes, but I needed to address this problem pronto.

For me, the solution was to take an Enzyme Supplement with any high protein meals. I chose Digest Gold, because it has a super high concentration of the enzymes I need to process protein, and more than most other enzyme supplements. Within a week, my body was PAIN FREE. All my inflammation was gone. My kidneys felt fantastic.

Now, at 50 years old, I am still PAIN FREE. I’m very strong, healthy and PAIN FREE. This is my secret sauce, one of my keys to longevity! If you are struggling with pain, inflammation, leaky gut, kidney or heart issues, you may want to try Enzymes for a week and see if everything changes for you like it did for me.

OVER 10 YEARS PAIN FREE!

My Journey of Natural Healing for Autoimmune Diseases

Super Food Shift

Ten years ago, my friends would all say I was super healthy. They called me the “Salad Queen”. Family, home cooked, meals were very balanced according the “Food Pyramid”. I did have some things right. Other things however were drastically wrong.

The Journey

In August 2008, I had a very disturbing dream. In this dream, I saw my son Samuel laying in bed and a huge syringe that had the face and body of a lady was towering over him. This syringe was piercing my son’s body and he was a great deal of pain. I was very disturbed when I woke up and prayed about the dream.

Not long after that during Labor Day Weekend, we went to Daytona Beach on a family vacation. My son has always been tall and skinny, and actually as gorgeous as a model. At the beach though, I noticed he was very lethargic and very gaunt and skinny. From that day on I was more vigilant about his eating and health. I noticed he was drinking a lot, and getting up at night. He started to have trouble staying focused and doing his homework.

Something told me to check his sugar levels. Because Samuel’s father had Type 1 Diabetes, we had a test called a Keytone Strip. I had my son go to the bathroom and tested him. Sure enough, our health nightmare was beginning. Sam was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and later Low Thyroid. I spent 3 days in the hospital and several doctors appointments after. This meant, barring a miracle, for his entire life he would have to give himself shots of insulin and take thyroid medication and watch his diet and health.

If you were to ask my friends, they would say we were extremely healthy. We ate a very balanced diet with lots of protein, healthy bread, and I was named the “Salad Queen” by many. We exercised. We had fresh air and fun. Nevertheless, autoimmune disease was running rampant in my house.

Skipping ahead a few years, my daughter had always been a bit sensitive to many things. She was skittish, quiet, and creative. Sometimes, she had social issues although she functioned pretty well. She was extremely smart yet child-like. In November 2011, she was very lethargic and sickly. I thought to myself, This can’t be happening again! She was hospitalized with a blood sugar of over 650. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Low Thyroid. She did not handle it nearly as well as her older brother. All of a sudden, she also went on a downward spiral in many other ways. She was depressed and soon started having anxiety and panic attacks. We began to see in her very Asperger’s/Autistic symptoms that we had not noticed in the past. She could no longer handle dance class and performing. She would shut down in school. She eventually had to be pulled out to home school, but even that was difficult. She tested with a very high IQ but was barely functioning educationally. I needed to find solutions and fast!

Thus began my quest to find the underlying cause for these many problems. In my searching, I began to notice a theme in almost every disease: AUTOIMMUNE RESPONSE. It doesn’t matter how healthy we think we are if our body is attacking itself or the food we eat, we are headed for trouble. I’ve also found out that if we repair the immune system, which starts in the gut, we can for the most part enjoy healthy food and a healthy life disease free. Natural healing for autoimmune disease is not only possible, it’s actually the only way to truly heal.
