I think I fell down the rabbit hole of health. I didn’t intend to. I just started walking down this path, and I got REALLY curious about the cake and the drink I found in the rabbit hole. I started to learn wondrous things about food and drink that made me think. It’s really only recently that we’ve discovered the power of living food. Most of the food we eat is not living; it’s pasteurized, homogenized, processed inert meals. Yes, we can eat them, but these meals do not optimize our life and our health. But, I wanted to be living the Super Food Life!
What’s the difference between food and living food? Does everything we put in our body help us live? I’ve seen small children eat crayons. They can eat them, and they will be OK, but the waxy crayons aren’t doing anything for them. There are foods though that are actually living when we eat them, and we should include them every day. Let’s take a peek at LIVING FOOD!
Many years ago, mom’s my age were starting to mill grain and bake fresh bread. Many friends and I would make large orders of buckets of Red Wheat, White Wheat, Rye, Sorghum, Millet, Amaranth, Tapioca and more. We would buy grain mills and Zojirushi Breadmaker, and make the most awesome bread on the planet. There truly is a difference between fresh milled, fresh baked, and store bought bread. Fresh milled bread unlocks living seed nutrients that remain active in the bread for up to 4 days. This was before I knew much about phytic acid in grains, which steals some of those nutrients, but still the bread was amazing packed nutrition. This was Living Bread, unlike the store bought bread which is edible but not very nutritious. Well stored grains and nuts are seeds of life that are unlocked when milled after soaking, or sprouting (see links above) to eliminate phytates.
Fresh produce, fruits or vegetables, also carry life. Studies have shown produce continues to have cellular activity until it goes bad. Fresh produce contains enzymes, vitamins and minerals, and more. Some produce is meant to be eaten raw, while other produce digests better when cooked. Still, other produce can be cultured into Kim chi, or Probiotics that is TEEMING with the life of good bacteria that helps maintain our bodies. Colors often correspond with benefits of certain produce. Green brings us life. Red helps our blood, our liver, and our kidneys. Orange helps brighten our eyes. Celery and slaw help our bones stay healthy and strong. Walnuts feed our brains good fat. Fermented foods help our digestive system. FOOD IS AMAZING, especially organic food grown nontoxicly.
Raw Organic Dairy comes from non-toxic happy cows or goats. Raw Milk is full of enzymes and antibiotic properties. It’s actually a living food. There’s a huge difference between “live’ milk, and the pasteurized milk available in the store. There is an anti-dairy campaign right now, but I tend to agree with the Maker’s Diet which includes anything you find OK in the Bible. We see every leaf, tree, and fruit plant, and clean animals including their milk. We also see fresh food each day. Don’t save the food forever. Eat for today! Raw Dairy also can be used to make probiotic yogurt, kefir milk (kind of like Buttermilk but full of probiotics), and cheese.
I actually really enjoy cheese and yogurt, but finding organic can be a challenge. If you think about it, you would want cheese from cows being fed antibiotics, and toxic grains. Look for Organic Yogurt, and natural Organic Cheese. Beware of Mold inhibitors on cheese. Find your local Organic Shops like The Wild Hare, to buy raw milk, goats milk, cheese, fermented drink and more.
To Eat or Not to Eat Meat
The Maker’s Diet talks about eating meat because the Bible talks about meat, as offerings from clean animals. These include Bison, Cow, Lamb, Goats, and split-hooved animals, but not pigs. It includes chicken, duck, pigeons, but not birds of prey. It includes fish with scales, but not shell-fish. Eggs are included. This does not mean that those who choose not to eat meat are wrong. Let everyone be fully convinced in their mind for themselves. Fresh fruit, veggies, grains, nuts and seeds, and fermented dairy are part of the plan. Many families will also include Organic Meats. Meats contain protein, good fats, vitamins and minerals and more. I recommend fresh meats.
I recently bought a bag of pre-grilled chicken that was gluten free. I thought it would make an easy lunch by having it pre-grilled. I included some grilled chicken on my Avocado salad. When I ate it the chicken did not sit well. When I looked on the side of the bag I was horrified to see the expiration date. That bag of chicken had an expiration date 18 months away. The most I would give my own cooked chicken in my fridge would be 2 days. That chicken I ate could have been over a year old. That’s really gross DEAD chicken, not fresh. In days gone by, meat would be eaten the day it was killed, unless it was smoked or salted. When my mom was a child in Germany, it was common to go out and get a fresh chicken to eat for dinner that night. Biblically, the priests would take the offerings of bulls, lambs, goats, or doves, kill them on the altar, and eat them or share them that day. This is the ultimate way to have the greatest nutrition.
Since most people do not have their own farms, fresh is best or fresh frozen is the second best option for meat these days. I saw an interesting statistic about freezing from Berkeley Wellness, “Freezing does not kill most microorganisms, but puts them in a dormant state,” which means freezing preserves much of the nutrients. It’s also beneficial to not overcook meat to maintain the quality. A rare steak is packed with nutrition, and the rare part still has amazing enzymes in meat. Meat meals are the basis for Bone Broth and more. Salmon is loaded with Omega 3 fats, protein, and vitamin A. Sushi, Sushimi, and Ahi Tuna give the body living energy through raw state of fresh food.
